This evening I had the best English class ever. I had three 6-7 year olds. One of them (Eriko) was joining the class for the first time. It was my first time with them as well, so I started off by asking their names and Manami and I told them ours. Then to practice that a bit, we tossed a beach ball around the circle, first saying our own name and after a few go-rounds of that we said the name of the person we were going to throw it to.
After that game we watched a video about face masks that detailed the parts of the face. After the video I took the flashcards and quizzed them with "touch your nose", "point to your ear", "shake your foot", etc. Then we got to draw our own faces on a cardboard circle etc.
I was very impressed with their attention and skill. They waited on my every word, there was no extraneous running around, they were grasping the concepts I was presenting, and they were so darn cute and adorable. I WANT ONE! I bent down to hug Eriko (girl) for a job well done and Sota (boy) positioned himself as if to say "ok, I'm ready for my turn". What a sweetie!
After class, Manami and I went to the 100 yen shop (dollar store) to get some kitchen and bathroom goodies. I didn't find any big pots or pans there, so tomorrow Hide (he-day) is going to take me to a Wal-mart like store. Oh goodie! I wish he could drop me off and leave me for a couple of hours. I'm sure he'll be tapping his foot urging me to get on with the shopping list.
Hide said he might want me to go to Georgia with him in February for 20 days. Woo-woo! I know it will be work-work-work, but I can stock up on deodorant, cleaners, teaching supplies, CDs and oh yeah, see the family and friends. Heh, heh, oops.
Looks like I'll be getting a new washing machine folks! Yippee! Maybe I can get an automatic one that will do all the rinsing and spinning by itself! The one I have now, as I mentioned in an earlier entry, is not holding the water in like it should.
It is 12:20am and I had better get to bed. Wish me luck with my black blinders. We are shooting for a wake up time of 9am rather than the 7:30am time I 've been hitting everyday.
Oh, one last comment. I have my windows open and a rather cool breeze is blowing through. I can smell the new tatami mats. Tatami is a kind of grass and when it is new it gives off a sweet woody smell. It's nice.
Oyasumi!
