I really should get an earlier start on my days off so I can have expanded adventures. But here's the thing: If you wake up with sun, get the washing done.
Yep, with no clothes dryer, I must rely on Mother Nature's sunlight to dry my clothes, and it has been raining every other day, so I washed clothes this morning. I also pondered how to install the new vinyl covering in the bathroom. There are some tricky angles to cut. Wish Bob Vila were here, he'd have it done in a flash.
Last night I had dinner at the Tamachan's Okonomiyaki restaruant downstairs. I had yaki-soba (grilled noodles with pork). I wanted to fix my own lunch today, so I pulled out a pack of noodle soup and tried to decipher the directions. I had watched Mama-san and Fred through the corner of my eye while I was at their house, but I ran downstairs with the package and asked Mrs.Tamachan (restaurant owner) what to do. She said to cook the noodles for 1 minute and 30 seconds. I got the noodles ready and heated the sauce package. The picture on the front showed pork, onions and ginger swimming in the noodles, and I thought that was in the sauce pack, but alas, they were not, so I just had noodles and sauce. But it was good and I have an additional serving for another day when I can add the aforementioned goodies.
After all this activity I was sleepy, so I took a nap. After the nap I got up and went in search of a hair salon. I had passed this shop the other day "Mod's Hair" and I thought I would give it a try. I went past it and looked at the door trying to decipher what the price for a hair cut would be. I saw $100, $54, and $45, but I didn't know which was what.
I took a little detour and went into a neighboring grocery store. It was very small, but I think the prices were reasonable. I wandered on to the back and stopped and just listened to the music. It sounded like a religious chorus, monk style. I thought it was rather odd and as I listened further I realized it was in Spanish! After that song, they played another one with windpipe flutes. As I was leaving I struck up a conversation with the owner. I told her in my pidgin Japanese that I thought the music was very interesting. That started us off on many topics and I found out that she has a 2 tatami room apartment for rent that is cheaper than my one room tatami. She said I should come back and look at it some time. I told her I would. I asked her where a good hair salon was and I pointed at "Mod's Hair". She said they were good, but they were expensive. I thanked her for the info and went across the street to "Mod's".
