I've been remembering my dreams lately. One yesterday or so about Anthony Hopkins, and then these three on Friday morning.
Tomorrow I am posting pictures and a short explanation of a rare Japanese Wedding Tradition that I got to witness in October. Then I have vacation pictures and other things to tell, so hang on! Here we go . . .!
Americana Bear
Likely inspiration: Last night Min and I watched "Americana", a 1981 movie with David Carradine and Barbara Hershey. David Carradine is involved in a dog fighting scene.
It was dusk and I was in a large meadow with a couple of friends. We were walking to an electric fence that our guide was showing us. He stuck a large wooden plank down in between the wires of the fence and made the steel hooks clasp the wires. We watched blue arcs of lightning crackle around the board. Off to my left, one of my friends threw something at the tall grass and a large form skittered away but came back.
"It's a bear!" I screamed. "Don't fuck with a bear!" I was on the other side of the fence, but two of my friends were on the side with the bear. The bear's back was up and it looked like it was part cow, but it was still a ferocious killer.
Blonde high school girl & Car guy
Likely inspiration: Min and I have been having many deep conversations lately about thankfulness and moving on.
I was walking in a crowded place. It was dark. There were many highschool students in uniforms. A Japanese highschool girl with bleached blonde hair came riding straight for me on her bicycle. At the last moment she swerved slightly, but was close enough for me to give her arm a glancing blow at her audacity. She turned around and came back for a confrontation. She got off her bike, sat down and threw her blonde wig over the chain link fence and put her head on her knees.
I sat down on the ground looking to my right, when all of a sudden to my left, two people in a small car pulled onto the blacktop narrowly missing my outstretched ankle. I was furious! The driver got out of the car and slowly came over to me. I was expecting a fight, but the young Japanese man simply bowed his head and said he was sorry. We shook hands and I turned to leave with my friend.
My friend said "Uh oh, here she comes." The high school girl had stood and was walking towards me. Again I felt anxiety, but again, the potential brawl never transpired. She too bowed her head and apologized and so did I.
British guy at the hospital
Likely inspiration: Conversation with my Japanese teacher about the Japanese hospital protocol where doctors do not tell patients they are terminally ill.
About five of us were in a Japanese hospital lobby when a British fellow walked in. He had a skin condition and other ailments. We were all ushered into the room with him while the doctor made some tests, looked at some x-rays and proceeded to tell the man about his disease. The doctor got to one point and the man became enraged and left. Then the doctor disappeared. My friends and I were left to discuss how bizarre the doctor had been to include us in this rather private consultation.
