Wash n Wear me out
...written on 2000-10-19, @ 09:49:42

Ya know, I told you that I got my new washer yesterday and I briefly mentioned the toil involved, but I left out some parts!

Hide (he-day, remember?) and I were holding on to this Japanese washing machine with our fingernails and going up three flights of stairs huffing and a puffing. We got to my apartment door and stepped into the by now infamous "take your shoes off place". We had already moved the older (and lighter) washing machine out of the apartment and upon stepping down into the "tysop" had to step into the right pair of shoes while hoisting this hunk of metal.

I thought surely with this machine being heavier and sweat pouring off our brows that we could just forgo the "tysop" detail and shuffle 10 ft into the kitchen, put the machine down and shuffle the 10 ft out without offending too many household gods. It is my apartment afterall.

I considered this possibility for a second or two. Would Hide be grateful if we skipped the "tysop" or would he react as Manami did when I came out of the W.C. and went to wash my hands in the kitchen sink? "That's for dishes!" , she screeched. Hey, there was no soap in the W.C. little sink thingee yet and to get to the bathroom sink you have to step over a 10" ledge onto possibly a wet floor and maybe slip and break your neck! Would you choose that or a straight safe shot to the kitchen sink? A large kitchen sink, with no dishes in it and a bottle of antibacterial dish detergent nearby?

Anyway, after that scene flashed through my mind, with a big sigh and a 100 lb washing machine pulling all my fingernails out, I kicked my shoes off, stepped up on the ledge, watched Hide kick his shoes off and step up on the ledge and then we shuffled to the laundry corner of the kitchen.

It is my apartment afterall.
